Our Annual Party
Thanks to all who attended our annual fundraiser on December 7 the Theatre for the New City in New York’s East Village. Click here to see photos from the party.
Robbery
Ghar Sita Mutu was robbed in December by a gang of masked men. Luckily, the small children slept through it, and thankfully no one was hurt. We lost cash, a lap top, two cameras and several mobile phones. The police have been very responsive, and we are hopeful they will find those responsible. We are looking into hiring a professional guard and installing an electric alarm
System.
Jan 22, 2010 Update: Three men have been apprehended for the robbery. Nepali law requires that we press charges, which we will do. No property has been recovered at this point.
Children’s Learning Centre
With part of the grant from The Shelley and Donald Rubin Foundation we purchased some new benches for our library as well as supplies for each of the
children in our Children’s Learning Centre. Many
children received books, schoolbags, crayons, pencil
cases, and sketch pads. For most of them, these were the
first gifts they’ve ever received. They were thrilled!
New Women’s Training Prog
Women recently completed a new knitting program, also funded by a grant from The Shelley and Donald Rubin Foundation. The women are making beautiful knitted goods which proved to be popular items during the recent holiday season.

Partnership with Lower East Side Girls Club
Ghar Sita Mutu has teamed up with the Lower East Side Girls Club in New York City in an exciting partnership. Beverly took the Girls Club
model to Nepal, where she established a Nepali branch of the club. Plans are in the works for the two Girls Clubs plus one in Mexico to begin a journalism program, where the girls go out into
their own communities and cover local stories. We are also pleased to announce The Lower East Side Girls Club has
generously offered
Girls Club has generously offered us office space in their new building when it’s completed in about 2011. We are very excited about moving all our files out of Beverly’s apartment and having a space to call our own!
